The Beitou District in north Taipei has a distinct flavor, whether from its wholesome hot springs or from the many healthy restaurants in the area, which attract many visitors from near and far. To offer visitors a new experience, the Department of Economic Development, Taipei City Government (DOED) has created three foot spa gardens in Quanyuan Park, Fuxing Park, and in Sulfur Valley.
These public foot bath areas have been so well received that many citizens have asked for longer opening hours on working days to give people a chance to enjoy a refreshing outdoor foot bath after work. In response, DOED has decided to add two extra opening hours until 8 p.m. on weekdays during a trial period running from Tuesday 14 February through Friday 14 April 2017. This way, the working people of Taipei can treat themselves to a much-deserved foot bath under the twinkling stars overhead.
DOED has created two pedestrian routes and one route for cars and motorbikes that offer scenic access, so that finding the foot spas and returning home are as pleasurable as the spas themselves. Whether venturing out alone, with one’s families, lover, or with a few friends, Beitou offers so much fun for everyone.

Starry Dining Route: Xinbeitou metro station -> Xinbeitou Cultural and Creative Paradise/Xinbeitou shopping, food, and gifts -> foot bath ponds in Quanyuan Park and Fuxing Park

This route was designed with office workers in mind, for them to stroll around Beitou on their own or with a couple of good friends. In addition to the food at Xinbeitou Cultural and Creative Paradise, the Xinbeitou shopping district offers a plethora of snacks and dining options to suit every palate. As visitors wander around, they can soak up the laid-back flavor of this historic neighborhood.
The route leads visitors to the soothing foot spa gardens of Quanyuan Park and Fuxing Park, where natural warm spring water will wash away their fatigue from the stroll and the day at work. Soaking one’s feet in the gently streaming ponds, while chatting away with friends or strangers, or simply enjoying the chirping of the cicadas and the evening breeze, are all sure ways to unwind completely.

Starry Date Route: snacks or dinner at New Beitou shopping district -> foot bath in Sulfur Valley -> view over Beitou by night

Featured as a three-star town in the Michelin Green Guide and recommended by the New York Times travel website, Xinbeitou forms a wonderful backdrop for this more intimate route. The route starts from Xinbeitou’s shopping and dining district, which offers an abundance of eateries along with unique souvenirs and gift items.
The Sulfur Valley Foot Spa Garden along Quanyuan Road is the only one among Beitou’s public foot spa ponds that is situated within a national park, which adds an extra touch of romance to the gentle spring water. Finally, visitors may ride or drive up to Lovers’ Lane at Chinese Culture University atop Yangmingshan or to the Wu Clan Ancestral Shrine to gaze at the glistening city below, the twinkling stars above, and the sparkling eyes of one’s lover.
Today, at this press conference, a meridian-based beautician with 20 years of experience will give a demonstration of meridian-based foot-massage, which visitors to Beitou’s outdoor foot spa ponds can easily apply to themselves or to one another. In combination with the green sulfur of the foot spa gardens in Quanyuan Park and Fuxing Park and the white sulfur of Sulfur Valley, this massage stimulates blood circulation, promotes metabolism, and contribute to overall fitness and well-being.
