July 1st, 1967 | This department was established to be in charge of Administration and Counseling on Mining Industry and Business, Administration and Supervision of Agriculture, Forestry, Fishery & Animal Husbandry along with Farmers’ Association, Administration and Supervision of Public and Private Enterprises, Traffic Administration and Supervision, Tourism Development Plan, Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock Production Administration, etc. Our subordinate units include the Taipei City Vehicle License Bureau, Bureau of Weights and Measures, Domestic Animal Disease Control Office, and the Office of Livestock Marketing Administration. |

March, 1969 | In response to development of tourism in the city, the 5th section originally in charge of the tourism industry would be restructured into the Office of Tourism Administration. Also, the Driver Training Center would be established for maintenance of traffic safety. Public retail markets would be incorporated into this department as well. |
April, 1970 | The Taipei Water Works and the Taipei City Bus Administration were re-affiliated to this department. |
May, 1973 | The Transportation Section, Office of Tourism Administration, Taipei City Bus Administration, Taipei City Vehicle License Bureau, and the Driver Training Center were re-affiliated to this department. |
March, 1974 | Section 7 and 8 were newly established to take over services in response to the abolition of Department of Transportation. All the original affiliations were re-affiliated to this department. |
January, 1977 | The Taipei Water Works was restructured into the Taipei Water Department, directly under the supervision and management of Taipei City. |
May, 1978 | Section 7 was newly established to reinforce the administration and development of tourism in the city. |
March, 1988 | The Department of Transportation was established. Therefore, we transferred traffic services from Section 5, 6, and 7 of this department to the Department of Transportation. The affiliated Taipei City Bus Administration, Taipei City Vehicle License Bureau, Driver Training Center, and the Traffic Accident Evaluation Committee were all re-affiliated to the Department of Transportation. |
January 29th, 1999 | Business Administration Office was newly established, with four sections and four rooms. |
September 11th , 2007 | This department is named “Department of Economic Development, Taipei City Government” with the newly established units. All units are named after their functions, such as the Industrial and Commercial Services Section, Public Utilities Section, Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Animal Husbandry Section, Slope Conservation Section, and the Soil and Water Conservation Engineering Section. |
January 28th, 2010 | The Planning Office & the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Animal Husbandry Section were re-named “Comprehensive Planning Section” & “Agricultural Development Section,” respectively. Their services were re-adjusted. The staff members and services were transferred from the Slope Conservation Section and the Soil and Water Conservation Engineering Section to establish the Taipei City Geotechnical Engineering Office. |
November 2nd, 2011 | 11th Taipei City Council, 2nd Regular Convention, 8th Meeting approved the third and final reading of the regulations for the organization and staffing-table amendment for this bureau, which took effect on Jan. 18th, 2012. One of this bureau's institutions - the Taipei City Geotechnical Engineering Office - will change to be under the administration and supervision of the Public Works Department. |
