From March 7th to April 28th, 2023, the Cat and Dog School under the Taipei City Animal Protection Office (TCAPO) will offer static courses at the 4 community colleges in Shilin, Songshan, Daan and Wenshan. All courses are free of credit fees, and the public can directly register with the community colleges. Moreover, offered at the community colleges in Neihu and Wanhua will be free dynamic courses, in which owners can bring their pet dogs to participate. Those who are interested are urged to enroll online soonest possible (URL: https://forms.gle/GbX2CEuUk8KBUNzRA), as seats are limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis.
TCAPO said that people often want to take part in various pet courses at the end of the year but miss the registration time. This year, the Cat and Dog School will only offer 6 courses in its Spring Class starting from March 7, of which 4 courses will be held in a static type, including "Six Reading Sessions for Dog Caregivers" and "12 Basic Behavioral Lessons for Dog Caregivers" lectured by Chao-xun Hsu (Polo Ba), pet behavior trainer from Pthinking Pet Education and Publishing. The former will allow the owners to better understand the life course of a dog through reading related books and in-depth discussions on how to live with furkids, while the latter will allow the owners to understand the dog's body language and learn how to create an environment in which the dog feels safe. In addition, Shu-wen Cheng (Judy) and Xiu-yun Hsu (Xiao Ai), behavior trainers from the Let’s Dog Full Potential Development Center will give lectures on "Life Education and Training for Your Pet Dog" and "Planning of a Perfect Life for Your Pet Dog" respectively, hoping that the parents of furkids can understand a dog's behavior and body language and the tips on how to get along with and care for pet dogs. In their courses, Judy and Xiao Ai will use interactive games to teach pet owners how to enhance their relationships with pet dogs.
TCAPO added that only 2 dynamic courses will be offered in the Spring Class. Shy dogs can participate in the "Pet Dog Socialization" course offered by teacher Xiao Ai to learn how to adapt to various situations with their owners. Meanwhile, teacher Judy will give the "Training Class for Perfect Pet Dogs", in which she will lead pet owners to understand the behaviors of pet dogs and how to train them in an interesting way, so as to enhance the interactive relationship between humans and dogs. Please take note that to ensure the complete disease prevention and health of hairy kids in group training and maintain the quality of the course, the number of participants is limited to a maximum of 12 groups per class, for which an online reservation system is adopted. Pet owners can register online from now on (URL: https://forms.gle/GbX2CEuUk8KBUNzRA), and the community colleges will inform them whether they are admitted or not before the class starts.
TCAPO urges that during the COVID-19 pandemic prevention period, if any trainee has a fever or does not feel well, please rest at home. He or she can use "Taipei e-Campus" to watch the "Companion Animal Behavior Education and Care Course" online. Those pet owners who take part in the physical course, please wear facial masks, follow the community college's epidemic prevention policy, take the initiative to clean the classroom after class, and act as responsible pet owners so as to jointly maintain a clean environment.
