It’s Fun to Play in Taipei Leisure Farms- Let Kids Learn Happily at Their Leisure

Continuous chirping of cicada and croaking of frogs that sounds like a symphony are frequently heard in countryside. However, for kids living in a metropolis, those natural scenes are only described by pictures and words in textbooks. Now, the Taipei City Government wants to bring different experiences to children, making them assimilate into the nature and feel the greatness of nature.

The Department of Economic Development, Taipei City Government, has started strengthening guidance service for legal farms to transform into leisure farms since 2003. So far there are 10 legal leisure farms, and these leisure farms provide professional agricultural activities and intact natural ecosystems. These places are full of nature, agriculture and cultural resources, which make them great places for citizens visiting with their families. Especially, children may learn happily in leisure situations while agricultural experiences and pastoral teachings are applied.

An official from Department of Economic Development, Taipei City Government said that, in leisure farms, you may use your hands to farm, to pick fruit, to enjoy the greatness of being surrounded by nature as well as the happiness of harvest. At the same time, you may make traditional child toys by hands in gaining the sense of achievement and to feel the fun of children who lived in farms in early times. By the explanation of tour guides in farms, children may understand the ecology of animals and plants, and it would lead children to experience and feel the land. Thus the emotional connection between children and land may be built.

In order for citizens to feel at ease when visiting leisure farms, Taipei City Government conducts routine inspections on safety and hygiene in farms every year. Also, for promoting the development of leisure agriculture and making leisure farms play better roles, Department of Economic Development, Taipei City Government provides subsidies for leisure farms to hold outdoor events for experiencing agricultural activities. Teachers and students of public and private elementary schools (the limit number is 3,900, including kindergarteners) in the city may start applying for the subsidies until November 10, 2017. Citizens may register for the events at 7 legally registered leisure farms, including Futian Village Eco-Educational Farm, Xinghualin Leisure Farm, Xiangcun Leisure Farm, Erqi Ecological Leisure Farm, White Rock Leisure Farm, Refresh Leisure Farm, and M&G Family Leisure Farm. The seats are limited and please register as soon as possible.
