Shuanglian Market

open MAPNansong Market

Shuanglian Market, a building that consists of one floor in the basement and 3 floors on the ground, was opened in June 1978, offering its service for almost 32 years until this day. Following the society's economic environment change and new plans for building public facilities, as well as alteration of the subjective or objective factors, business opportunities of the market began to decline since 1996. The vendors on the second and third floor closed down eventually and some turned stores into illegal residential spaces. This was why the Taipei City Market Administration Office decided to terminate the lease and took back the stalls in June 2006. Right now, the market still operates in the basement and the first floor of the building, with poultry and meat sold in the basement and fresh products' fruit and vegetables, flowers and general merchandise sold on the first floor. Another specific feature of the market is the beverages and food stands here. The second floor is rented to Tonog Mao Heping Hotel Co., Ltd where it runs a "Youth Hostel" opened on June17th, 2013 to offer accommodation for backpackers. The third floor is now the joint archive of the National Taxation Bureau of Taipei and Taipei City Revenue Service. The fourth floor is a branch of the municipal library for the public to borrow books.
