After the 921 Earthquake, the Department of Public Works of Taipei City Government noticed cracks, exposure of reinforce steels and corrosion on beam of Guanghua Bridge. If another level 5 earthquake occurs, the bridge had to be sealed. Therefore, the Department strongly recommended the government demolish the bridge that might cause danger to the public. Guanghua Market then cooperated and moved the vendors to a temporary site at the corner of Civic Boulevard and Jinshan North Road on January 16th 2006 in order to prepare for the bridge's demolishment on January 29th 2006. In order to continue the shopping culture and environment of Guanghua Market, and keep the electronic market of the surrounding area, the government invested to construct a new building for the informatics industry, which name was later publicly voted and decided to be "Guanghua Digital Plaza". In order to enhance the development for informatics industry of Guanghua Market and to encourage industry agglomeration effect, in June 2007, vendors that sell telecommunications, audio and video commodities that used to be the strengths of Xining Electronic Market were moved into Guanghua Market hoping to gathering more crowds and attract consumers to shop in this area, enhancing the development of nearby markets. Guanghua Digital Plaza had its grand opening on July 19th 2008 under the witness of Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-Bin and many distinguished guests of leading technology companies in Taiwan and overseas.
