Leave Wild Animals in the Wild

Red Eared Sliders, an introduced species, and Golden Thread Turtles, a native species, are the two most spotted turtles in Taiwan. Other protected turtle species including but not limited to Chinese Box Turtle, Yellow Pond Turtle and the critically endangered Chinese Pond Turtle could also be found in the field.
Taipei City Animal Protection Office appeal to the public please “Do not take any wild animal home.” Possessing protected species is illegal and will be sentenced to a maximum penalty of 1 year imprisonment. Any person who brings death to an endangered animal will be sentenced to a maximum penalty of 2-year imprisonment.
If you encounter an injured or wandering turtle on the road, please call the 1999 Hotline for help. For more information on adopting turtles, please visit the rescued animal section on TCAPO website.
